Reclaiming Power, Confronting Pushback: Reflections on CSW69 and the Road to BPfA+30

On September 15, 1995, the world adopted the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) — a bold global agenda for advancing women’s rights and gender equality. It outlined 12 critical areas of concern, from ending violence and poverty to ensuring education, health, and leadership for all women.
Thirty years later, its vision lives on.
To keep the spirit of the Beijing Platform alive, the Women’s Legal and Human Rights Bureau Inc., Women’s and Gender Studies Association of the Philippines, Miriam College-WAGI, Oxfam Pilipinas, and UN Women Philippines hosted an event called “Conversation on Reclaiming Power, Resisting and Confronting Pushback: A Post-CSW69 Discussion and BPfA+30 Book Launch” on August 12, 2025.
The event was an occasion for women’s rights groups and feminist advocates, including the Foundation for Media Alternatives (FMA), to reflect on the outcomes of CSW69, unpack the pressing challenges facing the feminist movement in the Philippines, and explore strategies to reclaim power in the face of shrinking civic spaces and intensifying pushback.
It also marked the pre-launch of the Philippine NGO BPfA+30 Report, a collective effort of various feminist individuals and organizations across the country to report on the progress and gaps in realizing gender equality and women empowerment in the country in last five years.
The Philippine NGO BPfA+30 Report is set to be launched this year.
