Privacy Starts Local: Pilot Conduct and MOA Signing in Naga City

Last February 25, the Foundation for Media Alternatives and Naga City Government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which will serve as the foundation of a continuing effort and collaboration on the implementation of data protection program for offices and staff of the local government unit.

The MOA signing was held during the pilot conduct of FMA’s “Privacy Starts Local” in Naga, a capacity-building activity designed to strengthen the ability of local governments to comply with data protection laws, and to train staff on how to integrate data protection and information security practices in their day-to-day operations. “As local governments increasingly rely on digital systems and data-driven tools to deliver public services, ensuring the responsible and lawful processing of personal data has become a critical component of transparency, accountability, and good governance,” Atty. Jam Jacob, FMA’s Privacy Coordinator says.

After a successful pilot training and follow up consultation last April, FMA hopes to bring PSL to other local government units in our country and capacitate more staff, offices, and stakeholders in data protection and information security practices. Privacy starts with awareness, privacy starts with us.
