Davao City, Philippines – On September 24, 2015, FMA held the first offline multistakeholder consultation workshop on the Philippine Declaration on Internet Rights and Principles at the Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City. This consultation was co-organized by Startup Davao, Dakila Davao Collective, Initiatives for International Dialogue and the Ateneo de Davao University.
This whole day consultation workshop was attended by over 40 participants from different organizations in Davao City as well as students from the Ateneo de Davao University.
Prof. Macario Tiu of the Ateneo de Davao University gave the opening remarks and emphasized the importance of information in our lives. He also shared how the Internet is now a significant tool for people to have access to information.
Atty. Sam Matunog from ICT Davao gave a brief overview of the very vibrant ICT landscape of Davao City.
The 10 principles of the declaration were discussed by FMA program coordinators Nica Dumlao, Lisa Garcia and Jam Jacob, along with Prof. Dom Cimafranca (ADDU), Angel Abella (Startup Davao), and Julia Sta. Romana (Dakila Davao Collective). They explained the basic concepts underlying each principle and how it was developed. Attendees were engaged to share their inputs and were encouraged to ask questions regarding the declaration and the discussion of the different principles.
