Disinformation (or “fake news”) and privacy violations are two of the most talked-about issues of our time – but rarely are they discussed in relation with each other. In the different ways privacy violations have been linked to disinformation, Big Tech platforms like Facebook usually come out as the biggest enablers. Their impact is stronger and more effective in countries like the Philippines, which have the most number of active social media users in the world.
This briefer explores the many links between privacy and disinformation in the Philippines and challenges current strategies addressing the same.
