Dr. Adora Navarro presents Economic Perspectives on the Globe-PLDT-SMC Deal

The Foundation for Media Alternatives, in partnership with the Ateneo School of Government and Internet Society – Philippines Chapter has recently concluded public forum entitled “Behind and Beyond the Numbers of the PLDT/GLOBE Buyout of SMC Telecom” on August 01, 2016 at Hurtado Hall of Social Development Complex, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City.

The presence and participation of multistakeholders from civil society organizations, tech community, private sectors, academe, student and individuals made this event a great success.

The public forum was found informative and worthwhile because it provides knowledge for those who seek facts and clarifications on the nature and implications of one of the largest corporate takeovers in recent Philippine history. It was also meant to examine the buyout and its public interest implications, particularly as regards citizen’s rights to an affordable, accessible, trustworthy and quality Philippine Internet.
