FB_IMG_1429501701843FMA invited some of its regional partners in the Visayas and Mindanao to take part in the recently concluded Philippine Multi-stakeholders Forum on the Future of Philippine Internet held on March 23, and Rights Con Southeast Asia on March 24-25.

Through the Funding Leadership Opportunities for Women (FLOW) project of the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), four of FMA’s women human rights defender (WHRD) partners were funded to attend the events. These are Melia Ukom and Saada Sampayan of UNYPAD in Cotabato, Glory Rose Dy of Switotwins in Davao, and Rosa Gabriela Sanchez of FORGE in Cebu.

“My participation in the activities gave me an insight on the current laws that enable the protection of citizen’s privacy in the online world as well as technology related issues faced by women and children,” said Rosa of Forge.

Melia of UNYPAD said she loved “meeting new people from different cultures, traditions, nationality and beliefs.” She also was amazed at their “commitments to extend the digital rights of users around the world and fight for an open Internet.”
